NSWMA continues effort to put out Riverton dump fire

Published:Saturday | April 26, 2014 | 8:44 AM

The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) is expected to continue efforts today to extinguish the fire at the Riverton dump site.

Up to late yesterday, the work crews from the NSWMA were still working to smoother the flames in a small section of the landfill.

The National Environment and Planning Agency had given the NSWMA until yesterday to put out the fire or risk having its permit withdrawn.

The NSWMA reported yesterday that it had indicated to the environmental agency that it was only about 95 per cent successful.
