Measures coming to catch persons evading international call tax

Published:Saturday | April 26, 2014 | 9:15 AM

Technology Minister Phillip Paulwell is warning that measures are coming to catch people bypassing the formal system to collect a levy on international phone calls.

The Universal Service Fund which was set up in 2005 collects a levy of three US cents per minute on inbound international calls terminated to fixed lines.

A rate of two US cents per minute is applied to calls terminated on mobile lines in Jamaica.

According to Paulwell, persons evading the system are depriving the fund of revenues while making large profits.
