2014-2015 property tax payments due, Wednesday cut off date

Tax Administration Jamaica says property owners are being reminded that they have until Wednesday to pay their property tax for the 2014-2015 fiscal year.

The property tax, which became due on April 1, has not been increased and therefore payment remains the same as last year.

Payments may be made in half-yearly or in quarterly installments, with the first installment payable by April 30.

Subsequent payments would become due October 1 for persons paying half-yearly, while other payments would be due July 1, October 1, and January 1 for persons paying quarterly.

Tax Administration says property taxes that are paid in full or with first installment made after April 30 may attract a 10 per cent penalty.

Property owners can conveniently pay their property tax online via the Jamaica Tax Portal at WWW.JAMAICATAX-ONLINE.GOV.JM, using a credit card, instead of visiting a tax office.

Persons who are in arrears for previous years are also cautioned that action may be taken against them for the overdue amounts.
