PM ignored important issues in Budget presentation, says political analyst

Political analyst, Kevin O’Brien Chang says he is disappointed with the Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller’s Budget presentation which he says skirted all the critical issues affecting Jamaicans.

Ahead of the Prime Minister’s contribution to the Budget Debate yesterday, Chang had told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre that Simpson Miller would have to speak authoritatively on the issues and rally Jamaicans to support the harsh measures being undertaken by the Government.

However, Chang says she ignored the subjects Jamaicans are most eager to hear about such as the 381 megaWatt project, the logistics hub and the new tax measures.

Chang says the country understands that there was no room for her to announce grand initiatives, given the strict economic programme being pursued by the Government.

However, he says Simpson Miller could have still inspired Jamaicans by speaking frankly instead of reeling off a list of achievements by her government.
