One of two elderly men, who were carrying out work at the Wheelerfield Marl pit in St Thomas yesterday, was crushed to death in a freak accident.

Dead is 78-year-old Clifton Francis who was working as a sideman on a tractor that was reportedly being driven by 83-year-old Winston Anderson.

According to reports reaching The Gleaner-Power 106 News Centre, Francis was walking near the tractor when Anderson is said to have lost control of the heavy-duty vehicle.

The heavy-duty vehicle reportedly overturned and fell on Francis. Anderson escaped serious injuries.
