KINGSTON, Jamaica:

Robbery is believed to be the motive behind a fire this morning that destroyed the administrative building at the Tacky High School in St Mary.

The Education Ministry has cancelled classes for today and tomorrow.

Education Minister Ronald Thwaites is to visit the school at 1:30 this afternoon.

Meanwhile, principal of Tacky High, Errol Bascoe, says robbers tied up the security guard from about 1 o'clock this morning after he refused to give them information on a safe that stores the school's money.

Bascoe says about 4:30 this morning, the guard managed to free himself and contacted him.

He says his office, the staffroom, records room, canteen, book room and the auditorium were all destroyed.

About 9 o'clock this morning the Jamaica Fire Brigade reported that it had brought the fire under control.

Acting deputy commissioner, Warren Malcolm, said the fire brigade received a call about 6:30 this morning and units from the parish and St Ann responded.
