TRACK & FIELD: Fraser-Pryce headlines opening Diamond League meeting in Doha today

Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will be among the stars in action today for the opening meeting of the 2014 season of the IAAF Diamond League in Doha, Qatar.



The World and double Olympic 100-metre champion will contest the women’s 100 metres, which is set to start at 12:09 this afternoon Jamaica time.



Fraser-Pryce’s teammates Kerron Stewart, a 100-metre finalist at the World Championships last season and Carrie Russell will also face the starter.



However, Nigeria’s Moscow double sprint finalist Blessing Okagbare will lead the challenge against reigning World and Olympic 100-metre champion Fraser-Pryce.



Seven other Jamaicans will also face the starter today.



Demar Forbes will be the first Jamaican in action as he contests the men’s long jump at 9:25 this morning Jamaica time.



Kaliese Spencer is down for the women’s 400-metre hurdles where she will come up against American Lashinda Demus.



That event starts at 11:04 in the morning Jamaica time.



Edino Steele will run the men’s 400 metres and Kimberly Williams will appear in the women’s triple jump.



The other Jamaicans who will face the starter are world Championships silver medallist Warren Weir, Nikel Ashmeade and Rasheed Dwyer in the men’s 200 metres.
