Identity of men killed in east Kingston released

Published:Sunday | May 11, 2014 | 6:05 PM

The police have revealed the names of the two men who were shot and killed during what they say was a gun battle in Rennock Lodge, east Kingston yesterday.

They have been identified as 23-year-old Shaneil Coombs, otherwise called ‘Gem Boy’ and Roshawn Grant, otherwise called ‘Dippa’, both of Rockfort addresses.

The cops say a Browning 9-millimetre pistol and three rounds of ammunition were seized during the incident.

The police have been maintaining a strong presence in the east Kingston community where residents have been disputing the police claims about the men's deaths. The residents say the men were killed in cold blood as they bathed at a water pump in the community.

They mounted blockades in sections of Rockfort and along Mountain View Avenue on the weekend in protest of the killings.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), which is investigating the shootings, says a third man was killed shortly before the two in Rennock Lodge. He was shot during an incident with the police along Harbour Street in east Kingston.

INDECOM is appealing to residents to come forward with information that can assist their probe into yesterday's killings.
