JP Tropical Foods rolls back banana price increase

Published:Monday | May 12, 2014 | 3:40 PM

Three weeks after raising the price of its ripe bananas JP Tropical Foods has rolled back the 20 per cent increase which took effect on April 22, due to a falloff in sales.

Neil Crum-Ewing, general manager of the commercial division says since the prices were increased sales have fallen.

Crum-Ewing explained that the price hike was due to ongoing increases in cost of inputs such as fertiliser and chemicals, all of which are imported and are impacted by the sliding United States dollar.

He says JP now needs to figure out how to be more efficient in order to manage the impact of the cost in the business.
