Police expect to charge 22 suspected Westmoreland lottery scammers this week

WESTMORELAND, Jamaica:

The police say they expect to lay charges this week against the 22 persons who were yesterday arrested during a series of anti-lottery scamming raids in Westmoreland.




According to the police, effort is now being made to question the individuals in the presence of their lawyers before they are charged.



The police say the detainees were held during pre-dawn operations in the communities of Cornwall Mountain, Belvedere, Lambs River, Petersfield, Shrewsbury, Carawina and Waterworks.



The police also say during the raid, investigators seized paraphernalia used in lottery scamming including several high-end electronic devices and lead sheets.



Two motor cars and a ballistic vest were also seized.
