JLP wants razed Tacky High to be national labour day project

The Jamaica Labour Party is calling for Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller to make Tacky High School in Gayle, St Mary, the 2014 National Labour Day Project.

JLP chairman and caretaker for Western St Mary, Robert Montague, has put forward the suggestion following a recent fire at the school.

The fire, lit by robbers last Monday, destroyed the administrative building that housed the staff room, records area, canteen, book room and the multipurpose hall.

Nearby schools had to accommodate grade 11 students sitting external examinations following the fire.

Regular classes at the institution resumed yesterday after a week-long cancellation.

Senator Montague says although the emphasis this year is on police stations, the approximately 1,200 students of Tacky High school also deserve full government attention.

Labour Day is celebrated on May 23 each year.
