Central Clarendon MP calls for more resources to tackle crime problem

KINGSTON, Jamaica:

Central Clarendon Member of Parliament, Mike Henry, is calling for more resources to be immediately allocated to the parish to help quell the growing crime problem.



Henry says he plans to write to the police commissioner and the national security ministry and to meet with Custos, the Mayor and the Clarendon Crime Prevention Committee to express his concerns.



He says urgent solutions are needed to address the crime monster that is crippling the parish.



Since the start of the year, the Clarendon Police division has seen an increase in serious crimes.



According to police statistics, last month alone the division recorded 30 murders, 35 shootings and 80 robberies.



The Central Clarendon MP says the additional resources must be found to help police personnel to adequately respond to the crime situation.



A senior police personnel at the May Pen police station told our news centre that investigators are concerned about the increase in crime in the Clarendon division.



According to the senior cop, there has been a jump in daytime attacks, especially robberies.



The senior cop says robberies have moved from 65 last year to 80 for less than half of 2014.
