A fire last night destroyed a section of the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James.

The police say preliminary reports received indicate that the fire started approximately 8:50.

They say the fire damaged a part of the Crew Room of Ajas Limited and other sections of the building.

Chief Commercial Officer at Sangster International Elizabeth Scotton told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre last night that the main terminal was not affected.

She also said there had been no report of injury or harm to anyone.

Scotton also said the fire led to a slight delay in the departures of two flights.

Members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Jamaica Fire Brigade and the Jamaica Defense Force responded to the fire.

Up to late last night the cause of the fire had not been ascertained.

Meanwhile, it's understood that normal operations are expected to resume at Ajas today despite last night's fire.
