Holness wants more info on proposed energy enterprise team

Leader of the Opposition Andrew Holness wants Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller to divulge the terms of reference of the proposed enterprise team to oversee the 360 megawatt project.

In questions tabled in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Holness has also asked the prime minister to define the role of the Office of Utilities Regulation, going forward, in relation to the project.

With the project now under the direction of the Office of the Prime Minister, Holness has enquired whether Energy Minister Phillip Paulwell will have any oversight responsibility for, or involvement in, the project.

The opposition leader is also requesting a status report from Simpson Miller on the process of revoking the licence previously granted to Energy World International.

The Government has announced that steps will be taken to rescind the licence granted to EWI for the construction of a 381 megawatt energy plant in Jamaica.

The decision came after the company failed to post a US$36.85 million performance bond within the stipulated deadline.

Meanwhile, Holness has asked the prime minister to indicated if any of the individuals being considered as members of the six-member enterprise team are connected in any way to any of the bidders.

The appointment of Dr Vincent Lawrence to head the proposed Enterprise Team came after mounting controversy over the bidding process.
