The US Embassy in Kingston is inviting interested organisations to submit proposals for the 2014 United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) small grants programme.

The deadline for applications is tomorrow at 4 p.m.

Community-based organisations, registered non-governmental organisations, faith-based organisations, individuals, clubs and service organisations are being invited to submit their proposals.

Proposals may not be longer than 10 pages in length, including the cover page and budget, and should be submitted electronically via kingstonAmbHIVPP@state.gov.

Grant requests should be not more than US$10,000 in funding amount.

The embassy says, this year, projects that receive funding under the PEPFAR grant programme will be targeted at increasing gender equity in HIV/AIDS activities and services, including maternal and reproductive health and preventing and responding to gender-based violence.

Statistics from the US Embassy in Kingston have revealed that over the last four years PEPFAR, through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), has contributed some US$22 million to the Ministry of Health’s National HIV/STI Programme (NHP).

As a result of the money being pumped into the NHP, some 70,000 persons across the country were tested last year, including 16,000 at risk youth.

Information on the PEPFAR Small Grants programme is outlined at http://kingston.usembassy.gov/pr_23042014.html.
