Local lawyer gets two-year suspension

Published:Sunday | May 18, 2014 | 12:36 PM

A St Andrew-based attorney has been penalised for a second time for unprofessional conduct.

In a notice published in today's Sunday Gleaner, the General Legal Council (GLC) advised that Attorney-at-law Arlean Beckford has been barred for two years, beginning May 1.

It's not the first time that disciplinary action has been taken against the attorney, who was fined by the GLC in 2005 for another breach of professional standards.

The GLC says after hearing evidence in the latest breach from a complainant identified as Winston Rowe, it ruled that the attorney had acted unprofessionally.

The GLC says the attorney is not entitled to practice until the suspension has expired.
