Sack Ferguson and setup emergency chikungunya task force, says CAPI

Lobby group, Citizens’ Action For Principles And Integrity (CAPI) says health minister Dr Fenton Ferguson should be sacked and an emergency task force be set up to deal with the chikungunya outbreak.

The group says the Prime Minister should consider replacing Ferguson based on what it says is his botched handling of the outbreak.

It claims the public has lost confidence in the capacity of Ferguson and his credibility has been eroded by his alleged downplaying of the impact chikungunya is having on national life.

According to the group Ferguson has soothed the nation in a false sense of security.

CAPI says Ferguson’s national broadcast on Sunday did little to put the country at ease, because there was an absence of a real grasp of the emergency at hand.

The group’s co-convenor Dennis Meadows, says Prime Minister Simpson-Miller needs to move with alacrity to take hold of the crisis.
