Negotiations between Air Jamaica and the National Workers Union (NWU) are scheduled to begin at the Finance Ministry on January 23.

Minister without portfolio in the Finance Ministry, Senator Dwight Nelson is expected to oversee the negotiation process.

Yesterday the workers and their union met with representatives of the airline, in an effort to resolve an ongoing dispute between the employees and the airline.

Vice president of the NWU, Granville Valentine, said several issues including the redundancy of workers were discussed during yesterday’s meeting.

There were reports last week that the new board of the airline recommended that 30 percent of the employees be relieved of their jobs.

Mr. Valentine said if there are to be redundancies, the management structure at the airline should also be assessed.
