University and Allied Workers Union (UAWU) said it has received the list of persons whose positions are to be made redundant at the state run bus company.

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC), said more than 300 people are to be laid off as part of its restructuring programme.

The president of the UAWU, Lambert Brown said he was still awaiting word from the JUTC, on the assigned members of its consultation team to discuss the redundancy.

Mr. Brown said he is hoping that the majority of those to be laid off will decide on voluntary redundancy, to make the process easier.

JUTC said it is forced to cut staff because more than 100 of its buses are not functioning.

It said the company is trying to improve its efficiency.
