Convenor of Hear the Children Cry, Betty -Ann Blaine believes that the justice system is not sending a strong enough signal to perpetrators of crimes against children.

She said that the punishment for crimes such as carnal abuse is not harsh enough to act as a deterrent.

According to the police 427 cases of carnal abuse were reported last year.

Police statistics also revealed that 65 children were murdered in 2007.

Ms. Blaine said there is not enough public advocacy for the protection of children.
