Prime Minister, Bruce Golding is reporting that the Government is taking steps to ensure that there is enough energy for Jamaica in the long term.

Mr. Golding announced during the recent Cabinet Retreat a decision was made for the Government to allow the Jamaica Public Service Company to install a new 40 mega watt turbine.

The turbine will provide additional resources for the national grid.

At the same time, Mr. Golding revealed the Government has now settled on introducing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), as an alternative source of energy.

The government is in discussion with external partners to secure a long term LNG supply contract.

Mr. Golding also announced an energy conservation coordinator will be appointed to the Office of the Prime Minister to spearhead energy saving measures in all government departments.

Going forward all government departments will be asked to assign a member of staff the responsibility to undertake an energy audit of the individual units.
