C&W report resurgence in cable theft

Telecommunications company, Cable and Wireless (C&W) is revealed there has been a resurgence in the theft of its telephone cables.



Last year, Cable and Wireless recorded millions of dollars in losses to persons who stole its cables for export in the scrap metal trade.



The company said the resurgence of the problem, has left several communities in St. Catherine without telephone and Internet services.



Cable and Wireless said the telephone cables were stolen in Spanish Town and its environs, McCooks Pen, Innswood, Linstead and Ewarton.



The company also said these areas have been the trouble spots for more than a year.



Cable & Wireless is appealing to the public to report suspicious activities near its cables to the police or to 922-HELP (922-4357).
