Ellis reels off triple in Jockeys’ Championship

Former champion jockey Shane Ellis reeled off a fine triple at Caymanas Park yesterday to increase his lead in the Jockeys’ Championship.

His winners were ‘Evander’ for trainer Anthony Nunes, and ‘Unleaded’ and ‘Jack in de box’, both trained by Gary Subratie.

As a result of the three-timer, Ellis has now moved to 13 wins, four ahead of Dane Nelson.

Ellis, who had been riding with limited success at Woodbine in Canada, will be riding full time in Jamaica this year.

Apprentice Jason Simpson had two winners in ‘Straight to the point’ and ‘Red Eye’.

Nelson piloted the 5 to 2 chance with‘Winning Message’ to win race number one, in the Caymanas Track Limited Claiming Series over 1100 metres.
