Charles announces payment of relief funds

Labour and Social Security Minister, Pearnel Charles said payment of the Hurricane Dean relief funds is to continue this week.

The payments will be made to householders who suffered minor damage to their houses, as a result of the hurricane.

Payouts were delayed last year, following irregularities in the claims made by householders. An assessment by the Ministry showed that the benefits of more than 32 households were duplicated.

Mr. Charles said the more than 200 houses reported destroyed were only severely damaged.

More than 3,000 householders have already benefited from the relief programme.
