A contingent from the Organisation of American States (OAS) begin a four-day official visit to Haiti, today.

Permanent Council Ambassador, Cornelius Smith of The Bahamas is heading the contingent.

The delegation will be meeting with Haitian government officials and other political interests.

They will discuss a range of priority issues including a program of support for democratic institutions.

The team will also visit various projects to determine the progress being made, and the areas requiring additional support.

Ambassador Smith said he hoped the visit would help to encourage donor countries, to make more money available for the economic development of Haiti.
