TRELAWNY:

It was an active Labour Day experience in Trelawny with several planned projects as persons sought to enhance their environment.

The parish project was the cleaning of the Clarks Town Square and main road. Activities included the removal of debris as well as painting.

Mayor of Falmouth Councillor Garth Wilkinson and president of the Trelawny Association of Voluntary Organisations, Sonia Lebert, led the workday in this rural township.

Over in Duncans, the primary school got a makeover courtesy of the Duncans Pioneers Organisation.

"We use here to keep our meetings and, therefore, decided to give it a facelift," said president, Noel Williamson. He said paint and other supplies were donated by the business community.

Successful day

The main project in the parish capital of Falmouth was the painting of the Accident and Emergency Department at the hospital. Volunteers who laboured on the projects included president of the Friends of Falmouth Hospital Group, Sheona Muschett; matron, Norma Stephens; and the parish manager of Trelawny Health Services, Charmaine Williams-Beckford.

The large turnout could probably be attributed to the day being, by and large, an open day, with the majority of activities being community-based activities.
