After leading the likes of Chad Wright, Traves Smikle and Federick Dacres to throwing titles at the ISSA Boys and Girls' Championships, Calabar High School's outstanding throws coach, Julian Robinson, is backing this year's corps of throwers from Red Hills Road to continue the defending champion's rich tradition.

Admitting that his team of throwers may not be in the same all-conquering vein of years gone by, Robinson remained confident that this year's squad - led by Class One medal favourite Basil Bingham - will continue to heap points towards the school's title defence.

"Obviously, we are weaker than previous years, but I believe that we have a decent crop of young throwers and I think we have a good shot," said Robinson from the stands at Saturday's Gibson Relays inside the National Stadium.

"In terms of Class One, we have a decent thrower in Basil Bingham, we have a good number two who, I believe, is also competitive enough to medal," added Robinson.

"We are going to do our best to get maximum points at (Boys') Championships. I don't dwell on what we have done in the past, I try and prepare the young men that I have now to compete at the best of their ability. We are prepared to win; I know that the past has been good to us, I recognise it and give thanks for it, but I don't dwell on it," said Robinson.

"What I try to do every year is prepare the charges that I have to the best of my ability, and I think that this year we have the personnel to medal and to get maximum points," he added, before weighing in on the continued development of island's throwers at the international level.

"I think Jamaica's throwing is moving in the right direction. For the last few years, we have had representation at the World Youth and World Junior levels and it seems like we will have more at the next World Juniors in Oregon later this year, so I think we are moving in the right direction - both in the male and female (categories)," said Robinson.
