THE EDITOR, Sir:
Our twin boys have now been laid to rest and we are left to ponder these endless tragedies, which will repeat because of irresponsible government, school administrators and parents/guardians. Two little boys did not die in torrential rains without the culpability of adults.
Adults are charged with the responsibility and accountability of children. As such, adults must be held accountable for the wrongful death of our children. Otherwise, we continue with this pious attitude that God knows best when 'is man do it'. God had nothing to do with the death of these little boys. Irresponsible adults let them loose in torrential rains to fend for themselves.
When will charges of criminal negligence be filed with the Ministry of Education for not having a policy on the treatment of children in inclement weather? When will charges of criminal negligence be filed with the school administrators for letting children through the gate in inclement weather?
When will charges of criminal negligence be filed with the parish council for deficient bridges? Bridge rail spacing has to protect children. And, when will charges of criminal negligence be filed against the parent/guardian for not ensuring the safety of their children?
Children cannot be left to fend for themselves in torrential rains. The weather was bad. The rivers and gullies were overflowing. Parents, pick up yuh pickney when the weather is bad.
Sadly, nothing will be done to make sure this never happens again. We just roll to the next sad events. We must stop leaving things in the hands of God when He/She gave us two hands to take care of ourselves. A lot of adult negligence killed these two little, little boys. We must file charges and establish the responsibility and accountability of government, administrators and parents/guardians to our children. Or, until the next time.
