The Government is installing solar electricity in schools as part of efforts to cut energy bills.
Education Minister Ronald Thwaites has indicated that a pilot project is to begin this September.
Speaking at a post Sectoral Debate press conference last week Thwaites stressed that the Government is spending billions per annum on electricity at educational institutions.
He said this is a serious situation which has to be addressed.
The education minister said this project is being led through a public-private partnership.
He said it has been estimated that the introduction of solar energy could result in a 20 per cent saving for schools.
Thwaites said schools have to get better at monitoring their energy usage and practice conservation.
