Youth minister Lisa Hanna, is defending the government’s decision to merge National Centre for Youth Development, with the National Youth Service.
Tuesday’s announcement by the minister triggered objections from the National Youth Council, whose president Ryan Small noted that Hanna had no discussion with members before declaring Cabinet’s approval of the merger.
However, speaking on Independent Talk on Power106 this morning, Hanna said she met with all the presidents of youth groups before making a Cabinet submission on the merger.
The youth minister also insisted that the merger is necessary to maximise the budget and functions of both agencies as well as add value to the ministry’s programmes.
She said her ministry is also working with the Cabinet office as it seeks to have a strengthened youth division.
