Two former Trinidadian government ministers have been replaced in the Senate as the main opposition People’s National Movement sets its sight on the 2015 general election.
Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley said he had written to President Anthony Carmona advising him to revoke the appointments of the leader of the opposition business in the Senate, Penelope Beckles-Robinson and former junior national security minister Fitzgerald Hinds.
He said they would be replaced by former minister and Ambassador Camille Robinson-Regis, who will assume the position as Leader of Opposition Business and television anchor Dianne Baldeo-Chadeesingh.
Defeated candidate in the July by-election for the Chaguanas West constituency, Avinash Singh has also been named as Senator to replace Terrance Deyalsingh, who won the St Joseph by-election last month and is now an elected legislator.
Media reports had earlier indicated that Rowley had informed Beckles-Robinson that the party was preparing for the general election and it was necessary to make certain adjustments to the Senate.
