There is no word out of the Cabinet on its deliberations today on the future of the 381 megawatt energy project.
The Cabinet ended its meeting a short while ago.
However, The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre understands that no statement will be made on the matter until Energy Minister, Phillip Paulwell, opens the Sectoral Debate tomorrow.
The project is now in limbo amid doubts regarding the ability of the preferred bidder, Energy World International (EWI), to finance construction of the US$737 million plant.
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has told EWI it cannot provide financing for the project because of procurement breaches identified by the Office of the Contractor General.
There have also been calls for energy minister Phillip Paulwell’s resignation for his role in the procurement process and the way he has handled the issuing of a licence granted to EWI.
