ST ANN'S BAY, St Ann:
SEVEN ST ANN citizens were honoured on National Heroes Day at a civic ceremony held at Lawrence Park in St Ann's Bay and put on by the Civic Affairs and Community Relations Committee of the St Ann Parish Council.
The seven, who were honoured under the theme 'Saluting our Unsung Heroes' are: Elder Harry Brown for service to religion; Altavious Lowe, JP, for religion and community service; businessman Manley Bowen, JP, for entrepreneurship; Delton Walker, JP, for education; Vernice Lynch (parish organiser for National Council for Senior Citizens) for long and meritorious service; Levone Pinnock, JP, for community service; and Dennis Higgins for volunteerism.
Mayor of St Ann's Bay, Desmond Gilmore commended the awardees for their exemplary service to the parish of St Ann.
The national heroes were also recognised with the laying of floral tributes.
Students from several schools saluted the heroes in speech, among them Columbus Prep, Priory Primary, St Ann's Bay High, Marcus Garvey Technical, St Ann's Bay Primary, and Parry Town Primary schools.
The Breadnut Hill Primary School dance troupe entertained the audience, while Daniel Rose of Golden Grove All-Age performed 'A Slaves Reflection' while JCDC gold-medal winner, Young Lion Drummers, also performed. There was also an item from Professor Roosevelt Crooks, chairman of the Ocho Rios Resort Board.
