Doping: Two lose Rio medals

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP):

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) says a Russian boxer and Romanian weightlifter will lose medals from the Rio de Janeiro Olympics after failing doping tests at the games.

Misha Aloian won a flyweight silver medal in a bout on the final day of the Olympics in August and tested positive for the banned stimulant tuaminoheptane.

Gabriel Sincraian, who won bronze in the men's 85 kg weightlifting, tested positive for exogenous testosterone.

CAS says the results from both athletes have been disqualified.

Zidane's Madrid can set new unbeaten record

BARCELONA, Spain (AP):

Zinedine Zidane is one match away from coaching Real Madrid to a new unbeaten record.

When Zidane replaced Rafa Benitez midway through last season, the inexperienced former midfield standout got off to an auspicious start with a 5-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruna.

Eleven months and one Champions League title later, Madrid face Deportivo again at home tomorrow with the chance of surpassing their longest unbeaten run since the club was founded in 1902.

On Wednesday, Madrid equalled a club record of 34 games without a loss, set in 1989 under coach Leo Beenhakker, when they drew 2-2 with Borussia Dortmund.

Barcelona invite Chapecoense to play friendly

BARCELONA, Spain (AP):

Barcelona say they have extended an invitation to host a friendly match against the Brazilian football club involved in last week's plane crash.

Chapecoense were on their way to the final of the Copa Sudamericana, one of South America's most prestigious club tournaments, when their flight went down in Colombia, killing all but six of the 77 players, officials and journalists on board.

The match would be played in August. The friendly, called the Joan Gamper trophy, is used as Barcelona's traditional curtain, raiser for the new season.
