A local sociologist has asserted that too much is being asked of the police to solve the growing crime problem.
Sociologist and university lecturer Glen Tucker argues that Jamaica's escalating crime problem is driven by years of social decay and the solution lies beyond draconian police measures.
While acknowledging that there is need for the police to move away from traditional measures to employing smarter and technologically savvy tactics to combat crime, Tucker says the country's crime problem is not a policing issue.

Tucker says proposed measures such as the Special Zones of Operation and the Anti-gang legislation will not yield the desired results.
