The album releases are coming thick and fast, with the expected changes on the charts. Yesterday was the  release date for Damian ‘Jr Gong’ Marley’s Stony Hill album and it was number one on the iTunes reggae albums listing just before 6 a.m.

It knocked Chronology, Chronxix’s debut album which had debuted at number one, fro(m the top perch, It is now fourth, behind Bob Marley and the Wailers’ Legend  (Remastered) at number two and another new release, Reggae Gold 2017, at number three. Legend (Deluxe Edition) is fifth. Curiously enough, Stony Hill is also listed at number six.

Chronixx has a voice in Reggae Gold 2017, as his Spanish Town Rockin is the final track on the 17-song set. It is a mixed bag, as Loodi (Kartel/Shenseea) is cheek and jowl with Jah Cure’s take on Telephone Love. Aidonia’s Banga makes the cut, as does Raging Fyah’s Ragamuffin; Romain Virgo’s Now is right beside Spice’s Sheet.

With the 2005 Welcome to Jamrock at number eight, jr Gong has two solo projects in the iTunes top 10.  And his 2001 Half-Way Tree is at number 20, plus there is Mr Marley at number 39.   Added to that is Distant Relatives, his combination set with Nas, at number 13.

Black Gold, the Samory I set produced by Rorystinelove, continues to have a  prominent place on the chart, with a number 15 placing. It is just ahead of another various artistes new release, Dancehall Fatty. Of course, Style X’s  Fatty is there and Charly Black’s Bike Back is also on the set. It is not a thematically uniform set, as Tarrus Riley’s Love Issues (featuring Fambo) is there, as is Singer J;s Give Thanks For  Your Blessing.

Aidonia’s Banga does the do compilation double, as  it is on this set as well as Reggie Gold 2017.
