The Finance Ministry is set to meet with the Jamaica Police Federation today to begin wage negotiations.

The federation represents rank and file members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

Today’s meeting comes amid an appeal by the finance minister, Audley Shaw, for moderation in salary demands.

Shaw said he hoped public sector workers will be measured given realities, such as the agreement with the International Monetary Fund and the impending implementation of the public sector pension reform.

That appeal came a day after the Jamaica Teachers’ Association voted to reject the government’s six per cent wage offer for the 2017-2019 contract period.

It has not been revealed the amount increase was being sought by the association.
