THE EDITOR, Madam:

Every other day, at least, I am forced to ‘enjoy’ the morning sounds of a whacker operating at an adjoining apartment complex. Indeed, as I close my windows in failed attempts to avert the nuisance each time, I wonder if the operator is taking notice. I think not, though he is merely doing his job.

As one who tries to understand the perspectives of others, I am not oblivious to the need for our surroundings to be kept in a pristine manner. By the same token, should some consideration not be given to its possible effects on others, or should we learn to accommodate this regular noxious pounding?

I must admit that I am largely speaking for myself, a retiree who now ventures out infrequently. Perhaps, the perpetrators are operating on the assumption that everyone has gone out to work or school – a dubious assumption, especially during this ‘Senior Citizens’ Month’.
