Nestled in the cool hills of Discovery Bay, St Ann, sits a quaint guest house, in Hidden Springs, Jamaica. The location, a delight for persons seeking an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, is a welcomed stop for visitors wanting peace of mind and authentic Jamaican cuisine. Recently, Red Stripe treated a group of nature lovers to the hidden gem on the brand’s Jamaicanness Tour. The excursion, led by thrill seeker and nature enthusiast, Maleek Powell, came as a partnership to highlight the untapped beauty and adventures that lay hidden across the island.
With an early morning start, the adventurers looked forward to an authentic Jamaican country-style breakfast, just the thing needed to fuel the day ahead. Breakfast at Hidden Springs is engulfed by rays of sunshine, an inviting aroma, and an array of real Jamaican dishes. Guests, whether local or international, are made to feel right at home. The adventurers indulged in well-seasoned callaloo, sauteed salt fish with garden vegetables, mackerel rundown, and delicious stewed chicken, with a side of plantains and ‘boiled food’, which consisted of green bananas, dumplings, yams, sweet potatoes, and dasheen. A point of reminiscence for the visitors was to enjoy a steaming cup of freshly picked Chinese peppermint and lemon grass for a taste of real Jamaican ‘bush tea’.
The landscape, which boasts the allure of the sea, beautiful trees, and crisp, clean air, is considered by the owner, Bridgitte Gordon-Dixon, as a bucket list addition for persons seeking adventure on the unbeaten path. “I returned to Jamaica after living overseas for 45 years. I lived in Kingston, but it was my desire to be in close proximity to the sea and longed for a rustic yet picturesque view. Hidden Springs, Jamaica, is an Airbnb and ‘glamping’ spot. We do a lot of retreats and empowerment getaways as we opened our door to persons looking to reset and rejuvenate,” she smiled.
“This was our first time working with Red Stripe, and when Maleek called to share that he would like Hidden Springs to be a part of this tour, I was simply excited! The morning was light, the food was delicious, and the guests were quite enamoured by the view. I know Red Stripe to be a brand of good cheer, of a good vibe, and that I felt went hand in hand with what Hidden Spring has to offer,” Gordon-Dixon passionately highlighted.
