New champions will be crowned in the ISSA Urban Senior Schoolgirl Netball Competition following quarter-final action on Tuesday at the Leila Robinson Courts, as defending champions St Catherine High were sent packing by Wolmer’s Girls’.

The St John’s Road-based team from Spanish Town, bidding for a third straight title after lifting the trophies in 2023 and 2024, were no match for the Tracy-Ann Griffiths – coached Wolmer’s outfit, going down 37-31.

Unbeaten all season, Wolmer’s edged the first quarter 10-8. The defending champions stayed in it early, outscoring their opponents 12-10 to pull level at 20-20 at halftime.

It remained close in the third quarter, with Wolmer’s holding a slim 28-27 lead heading into the final period. However, Wolmer’s kept their nerve when it mattered most, outscoring the champions 9-4 to seal a 37-31 victory and book their semifinal spot.

Goal shooter Kaelyn Kendra Smith with 35 goals from 39 attempts and Goal attack Zoi Chin with two from two were top scorers for the winners.

Wolmer’s will now hunt a double, as their junior team – the defending All-Island champions –delivered a clinical performance in their matchup against Gaynstead, cruising to a 33-12 win.

In a clash of unbeaten teams Wolmer’s controlled the game from start to finish with quarterly scores of 10-3, 18-10, 26-11, and 33-12.

Norman Manley will also have both teams in the semifinals, after their juniors eased past Camperdown 33-17 before the seniors defeated the same opponents 33-23.

St Hugh’s and Jonathan Grant juniors, along with José Marti and Gaynstead seniors, are also through to the last four.

St Hugh’s juniors beat José Marti 31-19, while Jonathan Grant edged Vauxhall 17-15.

In senior action, José Marti defeated Vauxhall 36-25, while Gaynstead produced the day’s biggest win – an impressive 49-19 victory over Merl Grove.

The semifinals will be played today at the Leila Robinson Courts as teams vie for places in next Tuesday’s finals.

In the junior section, St Hugh’s meet Norman Manley and Wolmer’s face Jonathan Grant, while among the seniors, Norman Manley take on Gaynstead and Wolmer’s go up against José Marti.
