Rideallday to romp Easter Monday feature

AFTER clocking the second-fastest mile at Caymanas Park to score a runaway victory in last year’s Mouttet Mile, United States-bred RIDEALLDAY did the unthinkable last Monday morning, almost shattering the seven-furlong track record in preparation for Monday’s Ian Levy Cup at eight and a half furlongs.
Galloping seven furlongs out the mile chute on a track made fast by rain at the weekend, RIDEALLDAY posted 1:23.3, four-fifths off Eros’ 1:22.4 set September 24, 1991, back in the days before the track was resurfaced and significantly upgraded.
RIDEALLDAY’s disdainful dispatch of LEGACY ISLE a furlong out in the Mouttet Mile, pulling away to win by seven and a half lengths, eased, while FUNCAANDUN was battling SUPERNATURAL POWER for third, puts the now four-year-old on a different planet.
When LEGACY ISLE left the three-furlong marker in a five-furlong split of 57.1, RIDEALLDAY was the only runner to respond, going after his fellow American, who cut the corner in 1:10.0, hoping to steal the Mouttet Mile from in front.
However, it didn’t take RIDEALLDAY long to pull level in a seven-furlong split of 1:23.2, the silver bullet, which killed the field, allowing the grey to waltz away, clocking 13.2 over the last furlong, finishing speed translated into ‘out-of-class’ when the clock stopped at 1:36.4.
The handicapper has tried his best to level the scale, handing FUNCAANDUN a 10lb advantage, of which approximately three pounds have been handed back by Jason DaCosta, opting to retain Robert Halledeen, who certainly won’t make 116lb.
It’s a somewhat similar scenario with RIDEALLDAY’s stablemate, SUPERNATURAL POWER, who was in receipt of seven pounds in the Mouttet Mile, now running with 116 to facilitate Raddesh Roman, effectively now getting 10lb after being almost 10 lengths behind at the finish in December.
The respective weight advantages, approximately seven in favour of FUNCAANDUN and 10 for SUPERNATURAL POWER, won’t overturn almost 10 lengths from the Mouttet Mile for either in their bid to topple the country’s best horse.
Philip Feanny has spiced up the Ian Levy by recalling journeyman Ian Spence, who after being aboard RIDEALLDAY for five of the grey’s previous seven wins, including the grade-one Port Royal Sprint, was jocked off the Mouttet Mile, connections instead flying in United States Hall of Famer Javier Castellano.
