The Met: Summer encore 2017 opens with Les Pecheurs de Perles this Sunday, 11:30 a.m. at Palace Cineplex.

Set in ancient Ceylon in a pearl-diving village, a tale of love, betrayal, and sacrifice unfolds in Georges Bizet's Les Pecheurs de Perles (The Pearl Fishers).

The opera centres around two friends, Nadir (Matthew Polenzani) and Zurga (Mariusz Kwiecien), who after a bitter dispute vowed to never let the love of a woman jeopardise their friendship again. However, when a mysterious priestess arrives in Ceylon, sacrifices must be made and loyalty must be paid.

Les Pecheurs de Perles is conducted by Gianandrea Noseda. The opera is directed by Andrew Dawson with production by Penny Woolcock.
