Harris for X Factor win
The Jamaican flag being waved frantically from the balcony in yesterday's result show, will no doubt be back to support 24-year-old Jamaican Dalton Harris as one of the final three in next Saturday's final of the UK X Factor.
The 2010 winner of Digicel Rising Stars, Harris may well be on his way to winning another title - this time an international one - as he is the favourite to win the 15th season of the UK singing competition.
Not only will he have all Jamaicans at home and abroad supporting him, but he will also have longtime mentor, Penthouse Record's Donovan Germain, in the audience cheering him on.
Germain, who has been working with the youngster from the beginning of his career, told The Gleaner yesterday that he was busy booking his flight to the UK.
"This is just another example that sometimes young people just need a chance," Germain told The Gleaner.
He said he told Harris he would not come to England until he made it to the finals. Now, it's his turn to keep his part of the bargain.
Speaking with The Gleaner from Dubai, Minister of Culture, Entertainment and Sport Oliva 'Babsy' Grange was elated to learn that Harris had made it to the finals. Though not surprised that he has come this far, she said, "I would be surprised if he does not win. He is fantastic, an excellent talent."
