Wasp enjoying a buzz

Dancehall artiste Wasp is riding on a high from his remix with Vybz Kartel, titled Tribute to Kartel. The track, he says, has opened up new doors musically and has caught the attention of top producers such as Romeich Records.

“The track with Vybz Kartel is really a dream come true. It is going on really well, as everyone expected, and, to be honest, this is just the most consistent I have ever been in my career since I got my break in 2009. It’s a good look and I will continue on this path,” he said.

Wasp told The Gleaner that, although the COVID-19 pandemic has slowed down the income of entertainers worldwide, it has caused him to visit the recording studios more often.

“We shot the video earlier this month and Romeich and his team did a good job as always. In addition to those tracks, I have other collabs coming up with some of dancehall’s finest artistes. Right now, I have at least 10 good songs ready to be released for some top producers like Seanizzle and Supahype,” he said.

He emphasised how much of an impact Tribute to Kartel has made on his career. The original track was released in April and got a positive feedback from Bounty Killer and Vybz Kartel who added a verse to the track.

“Bounty Killer first linked me on WhatsApp and asked for the video, and he reposted it on IG and, within 24 hours, I got over a 1,000 followers on IG. Then it was posted on Kartel account, tagging Popcaan, and it got even crazier. Vybz Kartel verse is one of the baddest I have ever heard,” Wasp explained.

Also getting a buzz is Wasp’s clothing line called Attack Nation. The line currently features male T-shirts, but the deejay said his females will not be left out.

“Music and fashion go hand in hand and I have been supporting other people’s brand for a long time. So I just decided to do Attack Nation. At a point in time, I was giving them away, but I have come to understand about the business and it’s always good to have an investment going,” he said.

Wasp, whose given name is Marvin Clarke, is known for a slew of tracks such as Hard at Dem, Tek Weh Bwoy Gyal and Unfair Officer.
