Sandra Lindsay will appear on Sunday’s episode of Rolling with Deiwght Peters. The Jamaica-born nurse – who works at the Long Island Jewish Medical Hospital in New York – is the first person in the United States to receive the much-heralded and anticipated Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

In an interview, which Peters describes as “divine destiny”, Lindsay speaks about the importance and safety of the vaccine.

“On the day I watched Sandra’s vaccination live, I knew she was Jamaican as she spoke her first words. After learning she is from my home parish of Clarendon, within a few hours, I was connected through her family,” Peters shared with The Gleaner.

“Indeed, we all share a common bond, the great Glenmuir High School,” he boasts of his alma mater’s tradition of success that continues to manifest through its past students.

Doubling on the magic, Peters was able to secure the appearance of Prime Minister Andrew Holness, who gave Lindsay quite the Zoom surprise with a heartfelt tribute of congratulations.

Fortuitously, Lindsay is a fan of Rolling with Deiwght Peters and admitted early in the discussion that she “has an alarm set on Sundays as she goes Rolling with Deiwght Peters”. The New York resident and health practitioner said she was “honoured and speechless” to have an audience with and be recognised by Holness for championing the much-debated vaccination.

“Good health is wealth,” Lindsay, told Peters. “It’s why I’m grateful for using my platform to encourage all Jamaicans to understand that they should take the COVID vaccine as it’s undergone and passed intensive clinical trials, and it can protect and help us.”

Born in Clarendon, Lindsay migrated to the United States more than 30 years ago to pursue her nursing career, after graduating from high school. She is the holder of an MBA from Hofstra University and is currently pursuing a doctorate.

WELCOMING MUSIC STARS

Switching from the healthcare newsmaker, Peters will also celebrate the festive season, welcoming a singing parade of musical stars, including Gem Myers, Alaine, Dwight Richards, Harold Davis, Christopher McDonald and the Nexus Performing Arts Company to serenade his loyal viewers with beloved holiday classics.

Also on deck, with even more holiday cheer, is Ashe with a performance from their ‘12 Days of Christmas’ project. Executive Director Conroy Wilson has a special surprise, a television debut of the 7th Day of Christmas.

“Christmas is absolutely my favourite time of the year, but no doubt Christmas 2020 will be very different in terms of how we celebrate it. I wanted to give my fans of the show some seasonal magic – fresh, upbeat, uplifting, and contemporary,” said Peters, while on set at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel.

“My exceptional team pulled together this holiday-themed episode with my friends giving delightful musical treats in just two days, and it’s a heart-warming tribute to Jamaicans across the world who will surely love the superb vocal and instrumentalists featured.”

Rolling with Deiwght Peters airs Sundays at 4 p.m. on Television Jamaica, and repeats on Wednesdays at 1:05 p.m.
