Alex Jackson and his business partner knew they were on to something special when they began sourcing unconventional snacks from around the world and delivering them to local customers. With these exotic bites proving popular over the years, it was only a matter of time before Trap Snacks found an official home. Located at Summit Kingston on Chelsea Avenue in St Andrew, the business, which carries just about every chip, cookie, cereal, and drink imaginable, has expanded to offer a deli experience that blends New York style with Jamaican flair.

Jackson gave Food further insight into the exciting menu. “The deli is a fusion of American street food with the local taste that we all know and love. We wanted to add new, dynamic flavours to international foods, particularly street food from different cultures, and present a melting pot of flavours for others to savour,” he said, adding, “And because we are all about supporting Jamaica, our meats come directly from local butchers, and our vegetables are straight from Coronation Market.”

The Jamaican-style beef patty is a must-try, incorporating egg, bacon, and cheese into a beef patty made from scratch at the deli. The Trappy patty is also a crowd favourite. It features a double-stacked beef patty with lettuce, tomato, beef, cheese, and onions.

Then there is the savoury rendition of the Philly cheesesteak, which, according to Jackson, is doing extremely well. The recently added smash burgers are currently the top sellers.

“We have other items like the chopped cheese. It’s a New York-style sandwich, where the beef or the chicken is chopped up with the cheese and onions all together and served with lettuce and tomatoes on a round or hoagie bread, wings, Oreo waffles, and fried Oreos,” he added.

Since opening their doors on September 1, last year, the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

“A lot of our customers love our food, and they keep coming back. Many come in and say they have been ordering online with us for years because we started the snack business three years ago, and they are happy that a physical store is now available.”

The storefront is the ultimate snack haven, showcasing delights such as Oreo cakes, Red Velvet Chips Ahoy, crab and crayfish Lay’s, and Airheads and Skittles drinks. Additionally, their family-sized cereals are the talk of the town: Cinnamon Toast Crunch Loaded, Oreo Puffs, Cookie Crisp, Lucky Charms S’mores, Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes Strawberry Milkshake, Frosted Flakes, and Chocolate Frosted Flakes.

Grateful for the support so far, the team is already looking to expand.

“This business began in 2023 with us selling snacks and doing door-to-door delivery. The customers wanted more, so we did a snack shop and deli. Now, we are hoping for an even more rapid expansion, with plans to continue delivering extraordinary food and quality customer service as we grow across the island,” said Jackson.
