Protect kids on the streets

The National Parent-Teacher Association of Jamaica (NPTAJ) supports the call for greater security measures in and around the Victor Dixon High School in Manchester.

The NPTAJ regrets the death by accident of a second-form student of the Victor Dixon High School in Manchester. Our condolences go to the parents, friends and family, as well as the school community, on this tragic and untimely loss of this student.

The NPTAJ supports and endorses the call made by the principal and other members of the school community for the following safety measures to be implemented immediately at the school:

- Speed limit

- School zone

- Pedestrian crossing

The NPTAJ further calls on the authorities to implement, with alacrity, the safety measures to protect our children, especially on the roads.

We continue to implore our parents to ensure that our children are fully informed on road-safety precautions. We implore our transport operators and all road users to exercise due caution when traversing school zones, particularly when schools are out of session.

President, NPTAJ
