Digicel clarifies ‘unlimited’ offer’
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I write in response to a letter to the editor, published on September 2, 2019, titled ‘Limited patience for Digicel ‘Unlimited’’, submitted by customer Janielle Todd.
We thank Ms Todd for her feedback and appreciate the opportunity to clarify for our customers how the service offering works, as well as to help them understand how to make the best of it.
Our Unlimited local calling to any network is currently available on all Unlimited Social Plans. These plans also offer access to popular social media apps such as SnapChat, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter for the duration of the plan. As of September 1, 2019 we have also increased the any-use data allocation in these plans by up to 60 per cent.
As an industry standard, Unlimited plans are generally subject to a Fair Usage Policy. This is to ensure that every customer will be able to enjoy access to the network based on usage patterns that are consistent with the service type. These allowances are typically set at a threshold well above average usage.
Since network resources are finite, all mobile operators have a duty to ensure that they manage their network capacity.
I shared the aforementioned information with Miss Todd during a telephone conversation, which also helped us to better understand her communication needs and come up with an ideal mix of minutes and megabytes.
Again, we wish to thank Ms Todd for her review of our Unlimited offer.
