Government ramping up PR machinery ahead of elections, says opposition
Opposition spokesperson on Information Olivia Grange is chiding the government for beefing up it’s Public Relations machinery ahead of local and general elections.
While giving her contribution to the Sectoral Debate in parliament yesterday, Grange said the Jamaica Information Service and the Communications department of the Office of the Prime Minister are to receive significantly increased allocations this fiscal year.
The budget of the Jamaica Information Service has been increased by close to $150 million this fiscal year.
The increased allocation will cover the relocation of the agency’s television department.
Grange says she is onboard with the move, but questions the timeliness of the allocation especially in the current austere times.
Grange has also taken issue with a $9 million increase in the allocation for the Communications and Public Affairs department at the OPM.
