PM announces completion of National Diaspora Policy at biennial conference opening
Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller says a submission on a National Diaspora Policy to enhance Jamaica’s social and economic development is ready to be taken to the Cabinet for deliberation.
She made the announcement during last night's opening of the sixth edition of the Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference in St James.
Simpson Miller says the policy is inclusive, will maximise on contributions to local growth and development while deepening existing relationships.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister used her address last night to issue an appeal to members of the Diaspora to help in selling brand Jamaica worldwide.
However, she is also urging them to help in the protection of the brand.
The diaspora conference which will run until Thursday, is being held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre.
It is estimated that the Jamaican Diaspora is made up of more than three million people.
